Park is a North Korean refugee. She escaped North Korea at the age of 13 with her mother after the regime punished her father for selling items to China and the family was persecuted with ‘guilt by association.’ Her autobiography “In Order To Live” was published in 2015 and she currently studies at Columbia University in the city of New York.
